East Kent Art Society presents a juried Plein Air competition and exhibition in the historic town of Sandwich, Kent

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2019


General Information

 

East Kent Plein Air 2019 is an open air painting event open to all artists both amateur and professional. The Artists are free to paint anywhere in and around the historic town of Sandwich Kent.


Artists are invited to create a single artwork within the allotted time of six hours on Saturday 8th June 2019. The work will be exhibited on the following day, Sunday 9th June in St Peter’s Church Sandwich where awards will be presented, all work being on sale throughout the day.

 

 

East Kent Plein 2019 is working in conjunction with “Le Weekend”, a two day event celebrating links with France with an authentic French Market on the Guildhall Forecourt on both Saturday and Sunday, with extra stalls in Market Street. There will be lots of free outdoor live music on both days in Market Street and a French Breton street dancing party in No Name Street on both days.
There will be an Anglo French Medieval encampment on both days on the quay green. On the Sunday, Sandwich will be celebrating Le Tour de France with a local cycle race, Le Tour de Sandwich!

Artists will register at St Peter’s Church at 10.00am on Saturday 8th June, their work will be stamped on the back and they will be provided with an info pack. They will then be free to explore the town with its ancient buildings and historic quay.
The deadline for handing in work will be at 4.00pm in the afternoon. Artists will then be able to relax with refreshments provide by East Kent Plein Air.

 

Hanging will take place overnight as will Judging. The exhibition will run from 10.00am until 4.00pm in St Peter’s Church where awards will be presented.

Judging will be conducted by East Kent Art Society with judges Caroline Lovely of Lovelys Gallery and EKAS Chairman Mr Fred Fielder.

Prizes will be £250 to the overall winner with a second prize of £100 worth of art materials and third prize £50 worth of art materials. A further prize, the Peoples Choice will be £50 worth of art materials.

Event Details – Terms & Conditions

 

All artists must register with the EKAS stewards at St Peter’s Church at 10.00am on Saturday 8th June 2019


You may paint in any public area generally considered to be the town and environs of Sandwich .


All artists must supply their own materials and equipment.


Maximum size of artwork 1m x 1m.


All work must be completed en plein air on Saturday 8th June 2019 in the designated time.


All canvases or paper must be stamped by the EKAS stewards at St Peter’s Church prior to any work taking place,


You may have multiple canvases/paper stamped but only one may be submitted at the end of the day.


All work must be handed in at St Peter’s Church before 4.00 on Saturday 8th June 2019


Works on paper can be handed in unframed but glazed and wired frames are preferred. Canvases framed or unframed must be wired for hanging. Acceptable hanging/framing methods will be at the EKAS stewards discretion. No clip frames will be accepted.


All work submitted will be hung overnight and judged. Prizes will be awarded at 12.00pm on Sunday 9th June.


Artists may sell their work during the exhibition. Exhibition forms will be provided at the hand-in on Saturday afternoon.


All sales at the exhibition must go through the EKAS stewards.


A commission of 20% will be deducted from all work sold at the exhibition. Please allow for this when pricing work.


All unsold work must be collected by 4.00pm on Sunday 9th June 2019 at the end of the exhibition.


We will attempt to send on any work remaining after the event at the artist’s cost but if it is still here after 7 days it will be disposed of at the stewards discretion.


All artists should take responsibility for their own actions while working in public places and should arrange their own public liability if they deem this neccessary. After handing in completed work to the EKAS stewards, liability throughout the exhibition will be covered by EKAS until collection by purchasers or the artists.


Cancellations

If you wish to cancel your booking, please inform us no later than 7 days prior to the event and we will refund your ticket.

Any cancellations less than 7 days will not be refunded.
