Anthony was born in Ramsgate and has lived and worked in South East Kent for over 50 years.
Recently he has now started to paint full time since leaving his senior lecturer role in Further Education and a teaching career which began in 1970.
He initially trained at Maidstone College of Art in the1960s and was lucky to have benifited from contact with top British artists including David Hockney. For two years he worked in the Woburn Studio of professional artist Derrick Greaves under an apprenticeship style training whilst studying for his first Degree. He graduated in 1967 with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art and Printmaking.
During his teaching career he has taught Art at A level, Diploma and Pre Degree Course level with mostly adult students assisting them to develop their own career aims. He has constantly developed his own skills in painting and print techniques consolidating ideas which combine traditional painting with contemporary approaches.
With a keen interest in Art History and Architecture he completed the BA Degree in Humanities at the Open University in 1978
Throughout the 1980s and 90s he was teaching art at Thanet College and managing a range of courses including media and photography. At this time he was also involved with implementing a number of public exhibitions in close cooperation with kent Libraries building on his personal strengths in painting and print continued with traditional still life and figure work, alongside screen process techniques gained through links with Sericol Inks, Broadstairs and training days in London.
By the start of the Millenium Anthony was employed for a short time as studio manager designing sets using computer graphics for a Canterbury Display Company. He returned to Education when an opportunity arose to take charge of Vocational A Levels at a local Technology College
In April 2010 he had a solo exhibition at the David Burley Gallery, Birchington Entitled “ Boats and Coasts” which included oil paintings depicting Northumberland, Dorset and Kent seashore. Inspired by changing effects of light on coastal shoresand harbours he continues to develop paintings which examine colour and texture combined with more abstract designed compositions
