I grew up in an artistic household in Bromley, the son of an Art teacher mother and an Architect father. They founded the Shortlands Studios and appointed our artist in residence, Peter Midgley RCA, whose studio was also in our house. In addition we had a large studio and drawing office, as well as a pottery with weekly classes and firings. I went to the city to escape the madness, and earn an honest fortune and returned to art later, when in my 50’s. Concentrating first on drawing and watercolours, and later on oils, preferring to take them outside, working directly from nature, ‘en plein air’ as did the impressionists.
I live and work in Broadstairs Kent, but like to visit Cornwall, Wales, Norfolk and Venice whenever possible.
