When I returned to the north Kent coast after a career in education, I was prompted to re-evaluate my love of more traditional landscape painting. I have been developing a different, more expressive style of work based on the vibrancy and energy of the sea; particularly the area around Whitstable and its iconic harbour. This new emerging style also lends itself to areas where I am inspired by the coast, landscape, harbour and buildings.
The paintings are based on many walks around a particular location, making sketches and photographs . The view point changes and alters with every step. Capturing this movement requires multiple layers of paint on each canvas. By working in acrylic, many layers can be built up with the image gradually evolving. Parts disappear as others become more prominent. The final image has a cubist feel with the movement and energy from the Vorticism school.
My work has been exhibited in galleries from West Wales to Windsor, Chelsea to Canterbury. I am delighted to be a member of the East Kent Art Society.
