I was lucky enough to study Fine Art at Gravesend School of Art and later at Rochester College of Art in Kent in the early 1960’s.
At that time students were taught classical drawing skills , where working from the model was the practise of the day, and
I developed a love of figurative art. Now after a lifetime of doing other things, I am free to follow my “passion” once again .
My work is mainly figurative where I always try to convey more than flesh and bone. I try to capture the spirit as well as the form.
My hope is to engage the viewer, and connect emotionally through the work that I do.
I work in a variety of media , traditionally in oils , but also in a more impressionistic way with pastel and acrylic.
I have been influenced by so many , including those great Renaissance drawings of Raphael and Titian , by Turners and Singer Sargents work , by the late Fred Cumin and his wonderfully atmospheric work and by the late Ken Paine and his emotionally charged portraits.
Art for me is a journey and I have loved it.
I have exhibited at various galleries / Exhibitions including:
The Open Exhibition, The Cut , Halesworth, Suffolk 2009
The Old Printworks Gallery , Saxmundham , Suffolk 2009
Peter Pears Gallery Aldeburgh , Suffolk 2011
The Aldeburgh Gallery Aldeburgh, Suffolk 2013
